James's Biography James Neal is a highly skilled and passionate technical diver, instructor, and underwater photographer, serving as the Diving Officer and Training Officer at InDepth Dive Club.
Holding an impressive array of qualifications including PADI IDC Staff Instructor, TecRec Instructor, SAA & CMAS Instructor, SDI/TDI Instructor, RAID Instructor, and BSAC Instructor, James brings a wealth of expertise across multiple diving disciplines.
With over 1,700 logged dives in diverse environments from wrecks to coral reefs, and encounters with sharks, dolphins, and manta rays he has explored the oceans in locations such as Egypt, Jordan, Malta & Gozo, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, the Maldives, Iceland, Mauritius, France (cave diving), Ireland, and Cyprus.
His specialty in sidemount and technical sidemount diving is matched by his "lust for rust" a fondness for wreck diving in all its rugged beauty. James is also a qualified cave diver, further deepening his experience in the most challenging underwater environments.
As a global Brand Ambassador for top-tier scuba equipment brands, James combines his technical expertise with a dedication to promoting excellence in diving.
His work behind the lens complements his role in education an avid underwater photographer, he brings divers closer to the deep through both skill and imagery. Beyond his professional accolades, James is known for his incredible personal resilience. Having survived a Grade-4 aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage in 2013 a condition with an 80% fatality rate he defied the odds to return to diving the very next year, logging over a thousand dives post-recovery. Today, he champions Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) awareness and supports the work of Headway, the Brain Injury Association, shining a light on hidden disabilities and actively combating the stigma that surrounds them.
